7 Reasons to love the rain in Bergen
It’s no secret that Bergen gets a fair bit of rain, which means more rainbows, cleaner streets, and cozy movie nights! In case you’re not convinced yet, (or you’re feeling those rainy-day blues creep in), here’s our top 7 reasons to love Bergen in the rain!
1. Excellent study weather
We all procrastinate from time to time, and as a student you’ll probably find there’s a million things you’d rather be doing, than reading an article or writing a paper. One thing’s for sure, in Bergen you can’t usually blame the weather for not getting your study done. It’s the city with the best study weather! Or if you’re taking a quick study break, we all know rainy days are the best movie days!
2. May
There’s something about the abundance of rainy days that makes the sunshine feel even more magic. May in Bergen is lush, vibrant, beautiful, and bursting with life. We’ll take all the rainy days just for the experience of May.
3. The streets are always clean
Aside from the early hours of Saturday and Sunday mornings, the streets here in the city are usually spick and span. After only a day or so of sunshine, you’ll find shop keepers hosing down the street outside their shops; to maintain the standard we’re all accustomed to.
4. You’ll look younger
Admittedly we don’t have any scientific evidence to back this up, but based on our observations, we’re ready to contend that people here in the west of Norway look younger and fresher than our counterparts in the east where it’s drier and colder.
5. The perfect excuse to spend your day exploring the museums and galleries of Bergen!
Bergen is home to so many wonderful museums and galleries (many of which are free or discounted for students)! There really is something about the sound of rain that makes walking through an art gallery that much more idyllic.
6. “There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes”
Norwegians love nature and certainly aren’t going to let a little bit of water get in the way of that. They even have a saying, “det finnes ikke dårlig vær, bare dårlige klær”, which means there’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes. So in true Norwegian spirit, next time it rains you could try putting on some waterproof clothes and going out to explore. Or get inspired by our best umbrella hacks for a rainy day in Bergen. Even in the rain, Bergen really is as beautiful and charming as ever!
7. A practical approach to fashion
Speaking about clothes, the people of Bergen take a slightly more practical approach to fashion. Granted, for budding fashionistas this may not be a good thing, but for the rest of us mere fashion mortals, we’re pretty happy that a raincoat and rainboots is socially acceptable evening attire!
