Bus and light rail
Public transport in Bergen is operated by Skyss and consists of bus lines and light rail.
Bergen light rail (Bybanen) has two lines and runs every 4-5 minutes during rush hours (7.00-9.30 and 13.30-18.00), and runs frequently the rest of the day.
The light rail serves the areas south of the city centre, including
- Bergen airport (Bergen lufthavn),
- Fantoft Student Village,
- Haukeland Univeristy Hospital
- Kronstad
- Danmarksplass
The rest of the suburb areas in Bergen are served by bus. Along these main lines, buses run at least every 5 minutes during rush hours, and also frequently the rest of the day.

City bikes and e-scooters
In the city centre you will find a network of city bikes. Using a city bike is both a budget and environmentally friendly way to get around Bergen.
You will also find e-scooters for rent all over the city. This is a bit pricier than the city bikes but can be a convenient option if you’re in a hurry.
Train
The trains departing from Bergen Railway Station is operated by Vy. There are local trains to Arna and Voss, and regional trains to Oslo.
Car rental
From time to time you may need to rent a car. In addition to car rental companies, there are also car-sharing systems like Getaround, Dele and Hyre (Norwegian only).
Taxi
Travelling by taxi is expensive in Norway. Even short trips can easily cost 200 NOK. We strongly recommend travelling by official taxis only.
Bergen airport to the city
The light rail offers a route from the airport to the city centre. This is the cheapest way to get between the city and the airport.
The airport bus is faster and offers a dedicated luggage area. Flybussen operates the route and it is possible to buy both single and round trip tickets, online, on the bus and with a mobile app
Note: it’s cheaper when you buy the ticket beforehand and there’s a student discount!
